Licorice root has been used since ancient times, across many cultures as food and as medicine. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Licorice is an ingredient in nearly all herbal formulas for the traditional purpose of “harmonizing” the separate herbs involved. This important tonic herb is often called ‘the grandfather of herbs’.

This root is suitable for the following preparations:

Use with caution if you have been diagnosed with congestive heart failure, coronary heart disease, kidney or liver disease, fluid retention (edema), underlying electrolyte disturbances, hormonal abnormalities, or if you are taking diuretics or heart medications, specifically Digitalis or Digoxin. Do not use if you have high blood pressure or hypokalemia (low potassium). Do not use if pregnant. Not recommended while nursing, until further research verifies no contraindications. Keep out of reach of children. Discontinue if unusual symptoms occur.
